Why East Timor?
We chose to help support the East Timorese people because a little over 10 years ago East Timor people would walk 100 m from their house and see dead bodies on the street. That's when East Timor struggled for independence from Indonesia. A quarter of East Timor's population were killed during this conflict. Speak to anyone in East Timor and they will tell you of someone they have lost. This is a nation just one hour from Australia. Since then the people of East Timor have done so well to re-build and forge a new future, but just like any new start some of the first steps have been unsteady. HALF THE POPULATION IN EAST TIMOR LIVE UNDER THE POVERTY LINE. The people of East Timor are incredibly young. With 60% of the population under the age of 25 and the majority of them are unemployed. We know that the people of East Timor fought to over come oppression and WON. Now together as 4 local Geelong Catholic schools we are fighting to over come POVERTY IN EAST TIMOR. AND WE CAN HELP THEM WIN AGAIN

Where is the money actual going to?
We will be raising both funds and awareness for Caritas Australia’s ‘Women Protection Program’, which aims to promote the protection of vulnerable women and children in Timor Leste. Through provision of women’s shelters for survivors of domestic violence and their children, vocational training, counselling and legal services, women and children affected by the high incidence of domestic violence are able to receive the assistance that they need. Your organisation can support us, the Geelong youth, in our mission to support the wellbeing of these young people in poverty stricken East Timor.
